Tim Iverson
Tim Iverson (EBC alumnus, ‘84) came to teach math and science at Emmaus in 1995. He holds a BA and MA in Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa, and he is currently pursuing an MS in Science Education from the Institute for Creation Research Graduate School.
Tim is pretty much a home-grown Iowa boy, raised with his 4 brothers in Davenport, Iowa. His parents, Jim (’60) and Shirley (Brucer, ‘61), are both EBC alumni, and his dad serves on the Board of Trustees. His grandfather, George Brucer, also served on the Emmaus Board for many years. Tim and his wife, Krista, have two sons, TJ (3) and Josh (1). They have spent many happy summers as staff supervisors at Lake Geneva Youth Camp in Wisconsin; and Tim serves as a care group leader at Arbor Oaks Bible Chapel here in Dubuque.
According to Tim, the science courses at Emmaus are unique because students are taught the biblical view and basis of Creation and Science. “They get evidence for Creation. Evolution is presented, but kids are given solid reasons and evidence for the biblical view of Creation,” Tim says. And what about Math? Tim says that in many secular schools, math classes are designed to weed out people who struggle with math. “The attitude is not one of caring about an individual who may struggle with math. Here at Emmaus, we give individual attention to students to help them make it through the course–they have to try, but we will work with them to help them understand and pass the course,” Tim explains. What is Tim’s goal for the students who take his courses? “To have them appreciate how math and science are applicable in everyday life. Math provides tools for life. Understanding Science enhances your appreciation of God’s power and knowledge displayed in creation.”
