Chris Lange (from August 2004 Newsletter)
Chris Lange brought a wealth of experience in life and in education when he came from Colorado to Emmaus in 2000. He holds a BA and MA in English, and has done post-graduate studies in history. He taught English in public high schools for 23 years, and also taught courses as adjunct faculty for Colorado State University. He coached men’s and women’s tennis for 17 years, and was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 25 years, serving on the Board of Directors for 5 of those years. He has been a rancher and hay farmer and is as comfortable on the back of a horse as he is on a motorcycle.
The father of 4 grown children, Chris is married to Nancy, an accomplished pianist who also serves as adjunct faculty in the Emmaus music department. Their son, Jesse, newly married to Kelsy (Sauerlender), works for EBC in Emmaus Ministries Resources. Hannah is a current EBC student. Levi Lange lives in nearby Illinois, and Ben and his family just moved to Dubuque.
Chris came to faith in Christ at the age of 22. He married Nancy in 1972 and the two of them have been active in ministry for the Lord, along with their various professional and business pursuits.
Chris says the “central value of taking general education courses at Emmaus is that literature and history are taught within the context of a Christian worldview.” His goal for the students who take his classes is “to teach the fundamentals and skills so they can develop their own appreciation for reading and writing.” He and Nancy are involved in discipling and mentoring young people, and their goal is to give students an example of what it means to live out authentic faith.
