Sarah Poling (March 2004)

Sarah (Hollensed, ‘91) Poling, is an alumnus of Emmaus as is her identical twin sister, Alice (’90). “We came to Emmaus different years, just to confuse everybody,” Sarah says. She knew, as a girl, that she wanted to be a teacher because she absolutely loved working with kids. Sarah got her B.S. in education from Greenville College. Then she married her high school sweetheart, Roger (’98), in 1994 in a double ceremony with her sister Alice and her husband, Randy Palmer (’90). Following college, Sarah taught school for four years. She and Roger were youth leaders in their assembly and spent summers working with children and young people at Lake Geneva Youth Camp.

In 1998 Sarah joined Emmaus as Field Studies Coordinator. Her responsibilities include coordinating the placement of  El Ed students in community school classrooms for their observation and participation requirements, and for their student teaching assignments. This means she gets to know each student very well over the course of their years at EBC. She also spends time building relationships in the Dubuque community with schools and teachers. That way she can match the right senior student with the right host teacher. Along the way, she has found the time to get her M.A.T from Coe College, and give birth to her pride and joy, Nathan.
