Steve Witter (from May 2004) (Some of the info here is outdated)
Steve Witter has plenty of opportunities to practice what he teaches in his Youth Ministries classes. He serves as the Directory of Constituency Relations and whether in the classroom or his office or at student activities, Steve is in a unique position to impact young people on a daily basis.
Steve grew up in Shippensburg, PA and came to faith in Christ as a young child. He attended Emmaus, where he met his wife, Wendy (Knuver, ’86). They were married in 1987 and they have 2 daughters, Joann and Emily. Steve received his B.S. in Biblical Studies from Emmaus in 1989. Then Steve and Wendy moved back to Pennsylvania where he taught in a Christian school for 4 years. Steve received a Masters degree in Religious Education from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary in 1995.
In 1995, Steve returned to Emmaus as Dean of Students and Director of Recruitment. He was drawn to Emmaus because “my life was so impacted by my time here as a student. I wanted the opportunity to reproduce, in students, what I experienced myself.” For the Witters, Emmaus is truly a family affair because Wendy serves the College as Director of Food Services.
Obviously his duties at Emmaus keep him very busy, but Steve also serves as an elder at Asbury Community Chapel and travels on weekends in an itinerant speaking ministry. One of his passions is camp ministry and in the summer he travels and speaks at Bible camps around the nation. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Capella University. For recreation, Steve loves to play softball in the spring and summer, and hunt in the fall and winter.
Steve’s goal for the YM students is to see them “take the leadership skills they have learned here, and reproduce in youth what has taken place in their own lives.”
